For the remainder of the week we continued to dive into our research. Split into teams of two to three we looked into categories including zoning requirements, a neighborhood and site analysis, site passive energy and climate analysis, building permit regulations, flexibility within the conditional use permit, envelope research, energy modeling, funding opportunities, windows and doors, and landscaping just to name a few. We also started assembling models of the existing conditions to more clearly present to our client the next time we meet with them.
During all of this we each had ideas forming as to what this all means in terms of the existing design, how it might affect it, and what changes are allowed within the conditional use permit that has already been submitted to the city and neighbors for review. We need to continue to develop the design to the best it can be while remaining firm in the realities of what we can accomplish within our short summer design session, fall build, budget, and capabilities of the group.
At the end of the week and through the weekend we compiled these findings into our own interpretations of the project to be presented in class next week. We will then narrow it all down to a choice we all agree on to then be presented to the client and become our official design. The research from this week will continue throughout the project as needed, but the information we've gathered so far has been tremendous in making this project become a reality.
